It’s official – Creased Cards is one of the best card retailers in the UK, having reached the finals in The Retas 2018 greeting card retailer awards. The Retas Awards, now in their 14th year, were launched by Progressive Greetings magazine to recognise and reward the UK’s very best greeting card retailers from right across the retail spectrum.
All Retas finalists are decided as a result of an industry-wide poll of greeting card suppliers, reps and agents and validated by a panel of experts.
We are delighted to be nominated and shortlisted as one of the best independent companies in the Home Counties. We are included in the final 6 for the category, who will all go up against each other at the Awards ceremony at the Dorchester hotel in London on Wednesday 11th of July. Should we be lucky enough to win our category, we could then go on to win the national accolade of Best Independent Greeting Card Retailer in the country!
This shortlisting is a fantastic recognition of Creased’s development over the last year. Whilst based in our previous, smaller Brighton store, we won this very category in 2016. Proud of that achievement and having now expanded into our much bigger bricks & mortar store based in The Lanes, Brighton, we’re ready to show why we deserve the prize again in 2018!
Our brand new store has allowed for nearly triple the amount of designs we used to be able to carry at our previous premises, as well as allowing us to focus on driving our awareness as a web retailer – our internet sales having more than doubled over the last 6 months..
On finding out about the nomination and shortlisting, owner of Creased Cards, Paul Jarman said “I’m delighted that we have been recognised in the industry again this year. My team and I, here at Creased, have worked really hard to create the largest independent greeting card store in Brighton & Hove, as well as really pushing our online presence. If we could go on to win this award, it would be a superb recognition for my team who are, quite simply, brilliant! I’m looking forward to the awards ceremony, where I promise to drink less wine than the last time I attended!”
The greetings card industry is healthy. In 2016 the UK public spent more on greeting cards than ever before – taking the market value up to a value of £1.75 billion! This means that we buy more cards per person than any other nation – 33 each a year. An upward trend signals an optimistic future for greeting cards, which of course is great news for retailers, publishers, suppliers and investors in our industry.
Further commenting, Paul said “We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for our wonderful customers. We have amazing local support and the laughter that fills the shop every day gives us daily appraisal and positive signs!”
